Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) Declaration
Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are organic substances that persist in the environment, accumulate in living organisms and pose a risk to our health and the environment. They can be transported by air, water or migratory species across international borders, reaching regions where they have never been produced or used. The Stockholm Convention Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee (POPRC) reviews and updates the Stockholm Convention’s list of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) which details the substances that are eliminated, restricted or subject to limitations. Camira monitors this list in conjunction with the requirements of Regulation (EU) 2019/1021 on persistent organic pollutants and The Persistent Organic Pollutants Regulations 2007.
Declaration
At the date of issue, and based on information provided by its suppliers, Camira makes this Declaration that substances, processes and materials used or produced during the manufacture of fabrics at its UK facilities do not intentionally contain persistent organic pollutants listed in the Stockholm Convention’s list of persistent organic pollutants (POPs). Nor does it exceed the limits defined for unintentional trace contaminants, undertake laboratory-scale research, and, to the best of its knowledge, does not use any process equipment containing persistent organic pollutants.
Camira has maintained its compliance status since at least 2012 and shall continue to follow the progress made by the Stockholm Convention Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee (POPRC).
Camira places on the market a limited range of fabrics that contain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and, although the PFAS used are not currently subject to elimination, restriction or limitation, Camira remains committed to innovating environmentally conscious alternatives in collaboration with its suppliers.
Refer to Camira’s Conformity Statement for information about which fabric ranges contain PFAS not listed in the Stockholm Convention’s list of persistent organic pollutants (POPs).
To ensure compliance with the requirements of Article 7 of Regulation (EU) 2019/1021 on persistent organic pollutants, it is recommended that those managing the end-of-life of fabrics purchased from Camira prior to 2012 adhere to published government guidance on safe methods of disposal.
Fabrics sold by Camira are intended for use as a component part, such as for use in upholstery projects. Therefore, this Declaration only applies to the condition of fabrics at the point of delivery to the purchaser. Camira makes no guarantee or assumes any liability for other materials or processes used in combination with or applied to its fabrics.
This declaration will be reviewed periodically and maintained as documented information in the 'Our Policies' section of the Camira corporate website.
